Crock Pot Hot Chocolate

cook 015

So I know this isn’t an OMG!! recipe (it’s regular old hot chocolate), and the idea of crock pot chocolate has been around a while (I think?), but I just heard about it a few weeks ago.  So I asked myself, why would you make hot chocolate in a crock pot when you could just make it in a saucepan on the stove?

Well, #1, that isn’t as fun as using a crock pot #2, we need excuses to use our crock pot as much as possible #3, you can throw everything in the crock and forget about it #4, if you wanted to serve hot chocolate at a party, this would be the way to go.

Maybe we should call this hot crocklate.

It’s made of… and I know this is going to take you by surprise…. chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar and milk.

Hot chocolate goes perfectly with cookies, no?

It’s time for a cookie recipe round-up!  If you’re looking for holiday cookie ideas, I’m your woman.  Let’s take a look at some of my older recipes, shall we?

Butter spritz are my personal favorite.  My mom makes these for Christmas every year (usually).  They’re so good!

Speaking of my mom, she’ll be here next week! My dad, mom, and younger sister (Hannah!) are coming to Chicago for my graduation on Friday.  I think Eric is taking off work, too.  It’s going to be a real good time.

I haven’t seen my family in six months!  I’ve never been away from them that long.  I miss everyone so much.  I’m really happy because my family is going to drive me home for the holidays.  Whoop!

Crock Pot Hot Chocolate

10 cups reduced fat milk
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
4 oz. unsweetened chocolate
1/4 teaspoon salt

Place all ingredients in a crock pot.  Cook on high for 1 1/2 hours, whisking occasionally, until smooth.  For extra creamy and smooth hot chocolate, blend using an immersion blender... this removes any graininess.

  2. Somewhere I have a recipe for that classic French style hot chocolate where you make a thick chocolate syrup and then dilute it with as much milk as you like. I have yet to make it. Must remedy that. I wonder if that's doable in a crock pot.

If you're serving this for a party, it probably couldn't hurt to add a bit of kahlua, or Baileys, or Frangelico. Just sayin...

Thanks for all the cookie ideas and the crockolate suggestion. I try to use my crockpot too but find planning ahead a bit of a problem.
