February Favorites Part One

1010077_10202921702544017_242000531_n Favorite place to visit in January: Cancun, Mexico.  It was beautiful!  We slipped away for four days and it was lovely; the weather was a perfect eighty degrees and sunny.  The water was turquoise and perfectly clear.  I have never in my life seen water so pretty!

1796669_10202921701383988_1235582729_n We got a good deal on Priceline and stayed at the Hyatt Regency.  Overall, we were pretty pleased with our choice.  They had a huge pool with a waterfall, restaurants and cafes, ping pong (I love ping pong), exercise room, and it was right on the beach.

1653566_10202921689743697_1489137173_n We just took it easy and stayed on the beach the whole time!  The water was pretty cold, but it felt nice after sitting in the hot sun for a long time.

1800458_10202921686983628_1370616104_nI had the best margarita I’ve ever had… I couldn’t tell you why it was so good.  Maybe because I had it on a beach in Cancun, Mexico?

484872_10202921688663670_1684056484_n I ate these tacos over and over again at the hotel restaurant.  Haha.  They were so good!  They were crispy chicken tacos with an avocado salad, guacamole, Mexican sour cream, pico de gallo, and hot sauce.  AKA the meal I could eat every day for the rest of my life.

1604371_10202921687903651_1310550313_n This was a chocolate tamale with vanilla ice cream we had for dessert.  It was delicious!  It makes me want to make some dessert tamales in the future.

1560486_10202921682623519_1830461605_n This was my sundae I had.  I’m an ice cream lover and it’s always my dessert of choice.  This was a fruity ice cream sundae and had all kinds of berries, whipped cream, hot fudge and nuts.

1545898_10202921682863525_633701329_n We also made sure we picked up plenty of Mexi snacks at the gas station.  Mmm donas!

Have you ever been to Cancun?  Did you have a good time?

Favorite Food Products:

Okay, so I like the idea of these Oreos more than how they taste.

New Oreos I purchased the new Marshmallow Crispy Oreos and Cookie Dough Oreos myself.  Don’t they sound so good and look so good?  My expectations were a little too high, I guess.  They’re pretty good, and I think kids would like them.  I preferred the Marshmallow Crispy over the Cookie Dough.  I turned the Cookie Dough Oreos into an amazing dessert, though, so stay tuned for that.  Did you try the new Oreos?  Did you like them?  I probably wouldn’t buy them again and would stick with original Oreos.

Caramel & Coconut I’m a little late to the party, but I finally tried the Girl Scout coffee creamer.  I like it quite a bit because I LOVVVE coconut flavored anything.  I’ll probably try the Thin Mint after I finish this one.

Speaking of coconut, I have not tried it yet, but I bought this pudding yesterday.  I like pudding almost as much as I like ice cream.  It’s Almond Joy!  My favorite childhood Halloween candy < weird

Oh my gosshhh.  What is with me and coconut-almond stuff?  I’ve bought these Coconut Almond Bars a few time and I think they’re so good!  They have fiber and protein AND… they taste like candy bars.

Fiber One Bars Well, I feel like we’ve covered enough important material today.  I’m ready for a break.  It’s hard to blog with only one eye open and watch the Olympics.  I made an eye patch out of gauze and covered one of my eyes because it’s been hurting for three days.  It's kind of like a Bob Costas situation.  My throat is sore, too (I’m falling apart!), and I’m drinking hot tea.  I really don’t like tea, I’ve decided.

  2. I could eat that taco every day too. Or maybe I'd just skip to the desserts. I have never stayed in Cancun, but spent some time around that area via cruise ship stops. I went to Xcaret park on one cruise? Did you ever go there? Beautiful gardens, wildlife, beaches, etc.

If you like almond joy and samoas, I would suggest this cocktail recipe. It has been called an Almond Joy cocktail and has been called a Samoa cocktail. Mix Godiva liqueur, Malibu Rum, and amaretto. To die for! I can only drink one. They go down easy, but pack quite a punch!

  8. I've never been to Cancun but visited Mexico a lot for work. The first time I arrived I was in a cab from the airport in Mexico City to my hotel and I saw a billboard for "Bimbo," the big line of packaged pastries and snacks there in Mexico. I laughed out loud and had to explain to the taxi driver what "Bimbo" was in English.

One of my favorite foods in Mexico is molletes for breakfast: French bread spread with refried beans and cheese, then put under the broiler. Simple and delicious, but only one place here in DC makes them! Also conchas, the pastries that look like sea shells. I have tried making them here a few times but they just don't turn out the same as the best ones in Mexico.

    1. Hahaha I know! Don't you love those Bimbo snacks? I'd love to explore Mexico more. I wish I had taken Spanish instead of French! I felt lost when I was there. The molletes sounds SO GOOD. Really good refried beans are amazing. I looked for the conchas but didn't see them. Perhaps there's a good Mexican market here in St. Louis?

  9. UM majorly envious of your vacation! I'm going to school in Eugene, Oregon and we just had an ice storm that caused our apartment to lose power for five days... soooo I am def very jeal of your mexican vacay! I've been wanting to try the cookie dough oreos but have heard mixed results so now idk!

    1. Oh no! I feel your pain! Losing power in an ice storm is horrible! One time we lost it for over a week! I would save your money and not buy the Oreos. Or just buy regular Oreos!

  10. I think tea is definitely overrated. Or maybe I'm just drinking the wrong kind. I used to drink tea, but found that I really don't like it lately either. I'd rather have coffee or hot cocoa.

Your vacation looks wonderful! Must have been nice to get away from the winter.

    1. Samesies! I love hot cocoa and coffee. Do you like chai? That's the only tea I like.

  11. We think so much alike. I was so excited for the cookie dough and marshmallow crispy oreos, too! So I bought them and took them to work so other people could try them, too. But yea, my hopes were too high, cause the cookie dough tasted really brown sugary, and the marshmallow crispy was so sweet it gave me a headache I think. They were fun to try I guess. I also have that creamer in my fridge, haha!

And, I am jealous you are traveling the world now! I went to Cancun with my parents in 10th grade, so I think I would appreciate it more now if I went.

    1. I completely agree with you! The marshmallow ones are SO sweet! They make your teeth hurt. Haha we do? I wish you lived here. :( We'd be besties.

Yes, you would! It would be fun for a girls' trip or something. I am looking forward to Chicago next month.
